Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir Wine Review: The P45

a bottle of Pinot Noir wine from Hawke's Bay in New Zealand

What does the letter you get when you leave (or get sacked if you’re an uncontrollable rebel) have to do with wine? Read my Hawke’s Bay pinot noir wine review to find out.

On Joe Fattorini‘s The Wine Show, a French winemaker told the presenters a simple truth about wine when he said, “Le perpoose of a wine eez to bring plezure.”

I wholeheartedly agree, Monsieur 🙏

It’s never JUST the wine, though. The best bottles I’ve had are the ones sat outside on a warm evening with friends. But the thing is – sunny weather doesn’t really match with my personal faves:

Big, bold, spicy shiraz from the land of Oz

OR

Silky smooth Italian using the ‘appassimento’ process – grapes that are left longer on the vines to concentrate the juice into syrupy goodness.

So this week, I dabbled with a Pinot Noir, known for being…well, less dense than my usual choices and more suited for the beaut weather we’ve been having.

It marches into your mouth, handing your saliva glands their P45 before kitchen-rolling the rest of your palate

🍇Grape: Pinot Noir

🇳🇿Origin: New Zealand

🛒Supermarket: Lidl GB

💷 Price: £6.99

It’s earthy, with bits of cherry and redcurrant knocking about.

And it’s dry.

Like, bone dry.

But it’s great with summer food – all the meats and cheeses and olives and those boss little parcels of joy, stuffed peppers with soft cheese I mean who invented them?!

At £7, it’s about right.

Have a great weekend and let me know if you give the wine a try!
