Picpoul de Pinet Wine Review – To Me, To You

Chuckle Chucklevision, Ch…Chucklevision, Chuckle Chucklevision

What have The Chuckle Brothers got in common with Picpoul de Pinet, a dry white wine native to the Languedoc in France?

(Were you even a kid growing up in Britain in the 90s if you don’t know what I’m about? International connections might need to Google but trust me, well worth it).

I mean, I could’ve used Charles and Eddie (would I lie to ya baby, would I lie to you?)

Or Kenan and Kel (who luuuurves orange soda?) as an example of nostalgic 90s duos.

But it was the ‘to me, to you’ expression made famous by Barry and Paul that edged it for me. Take a look for yourself.

The camera would pan back and forth as they swapped instructions trying to maneuver something cumbersome and heavy between them.

‘To me, to you, to me, to you,’ they’d say eagerly, before dropping said item, cueing barrels of laughter from many an 8-year-old watching telly early on a Saturday morning before the adults woke up.

The Chuckle Brothers kinda illustrate the point that sometimes you need more than just one of something to make that thing better.

Picpoul de Pinet: The ‘lip-stinger’ made for seafood

🍇Grape: Picpoul

🇫🇷 Origin: Languedoc-Roussillon, France

🇩🇪 Supermarket: Lidl

Price: £5.99

In isolation, it was nice enough.

Dry and refreshing, it lives up to its literal translation, ‘lip stinger’, with its zingy acidity.

But doing as they suggest, and pairing it with seafood, took it to another level.

I had it with my king prawn linguine, which elevated it from Chuckle Brother to Chuckle Brothers – plural – realms of bossness.

It’s a good alternative to the usual Pinots/Sauvignons and at £6 a bottle, I suspect there’ll be lots of ‘to mes’ and not many ‘to yous’

Thanks for reading – I hope this Picpoul de Pinet review has, in some nostalgic-inducing way, encouraged you to try it.
