Shiraz Wine Review: Ace Ventura and the Staircase Slinky

a bottle of shiraz from barossa valley for a shiraz wine review

What’s a kid’s toy from the movie Ace Ventura 2 got to do with a bold bottle from the Barossa Valley? My shiraz wine review…

Everyone loves a slinky, you gotta get a slinky, GO slinky GO!

So sang Ace Ventura as his beloved slinky flip-flopped its way down an enormous Tibetan staircase, only to land agonisingly short on the penultimate step.

I felt your pain, Ace. As did thousands of children across the world.

Childhood disappointment aside, that scene kinda reminded me of this week’s bottle, a £5.99 Aussie shiraz from Lidl.

It’s full to the brim with sunshine and all the spicy, fruity charisma that you’d expect of a Barossa Valley wine.

And it’s a smoothie, alright.

Taking a swig feels like you’ve marinated Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits in a Marvin Gaye spice mix and stuck it in Tom Jones’ slow cooker for 8 hours.

But annoyingly, it just comes up short.

The finish feels a bit fumbled, like a bleary-eyed Z-lister getting into a taxi after a night on the ale, but at £5.99, you’re still getting a decent wine.

In summary, it’s defo worth a shot, mates, so slinky on down to Lidl and give it a whirl.
